In 1942, the Reverend Joel Mitchell started prayer service in his home on the property of
Ms. Ann Bacon. This property was located in the Harmony Community of Johnston, SC From these services,
the Bacon Chapel F.B.H. Church originated. In 1944, the church was organized.
Mother Hattie Mitchell Johnson was one of the first members of the church.
Elder E.A. White ran the first revival, fifteen souls were saved and added to the church.
Three deacons were ordained: Deacon James Nicholson, Deacon Dave Mitchell, and Deacon Horace Oliphant.
Sister Lucille Abney was the first church secretary. Members of the Mother Board were:
Mother Lelia Payne, Mother Mamie Hampton, and Mother Carrie Mitchell.
In 1951, Reverend Joel Mitchell was called home to be with the Lord. In 1952,
Bacon Chapel moved to it's present dwellings on Lee Street. Four more deacons were ordained and
added to the deacon board: Deacon Wigfall Ryan, Deacon Handy Robinson, Deacon Hazel Smith, Sr.,and
Deacon George Jones. New members were added to the Mother Board: Mother Minnie Mithcell,
Mother Ray Robinson, Mother Annie Oliphant, Mother Cora Smith and many more.
