Southwest Ohio District
On October 23, 1999, the Southwest Ohio District buried a Time Capsule. The Capsule was professionally prepared by Future Packaging & Preservation in Covina, California.
The Time Capsule Committee worked diligently all year on the project. All efforts climaxed at St. James FBH Church in Detroit, Micigan, with the Dedication Ceremony. A Press Release was sent to every major newspaper and a number of radio stations in Detroit. We mailed invitations and made plans for a memorable program.
We enjoyed our special guests, Mrs. Mary Ann Mahaffey, President Pro Tem of Detroit City Council and Mayor Edward Bivins Jr., Mayor of Inkster, Michigan. Dr. Harold Hunter, Director of Archives & Research Center, International Pentecostal Holiness Church, was not able to attend the Dedication Ceremony. We were elated to hear Dr. Hunter's written remarks. Our own Dr. Anne Fannin, National Executive Secretary, National Board of Bishops was superb! Please take a few moments to read the Program.
We are very grateful to Deacon F. Jones and the young men at St. James who prepared the burial site. We purchased a Polyguard Liner from Heritage Burial Products. The capsule was placed in the liner and the liner was sealed for added protection against the elements and time.
All three of our Bishops were on hand to cast the ceremonial shovels of dirt. The Placement ended with the release of 100 balloons. The Committee attached a scripture to each balloon. We have a few pictures of the Placement activities. (We did not have a professional photographer....smile.)
The Committee ordered a Sun-dial from Forida Plants On-line to mark the burial place of the Time Capsule.
We hope that this inspires others to leave a real piece of history for their children. Our only regret is that we did not hire professional vidographers or photographers...Smile.
